Description:
PART 2 (follow up from Saturday 16th April)
Date and time: Saturday 30th April, 10:00AM - 1.00PM
Venue: ALKA Ceramics, Crafts Village, Ta’ Qal
This hands-on workshop, led by ceramist Tony Briffa, is spread out on two Saturday mornings, and whose primary aim is to introduce individuals - young and the not-so-young - to the entire process of ceramic production That is, from the initial phase of drafting ideas, to the transferring of those ideas into clay, to the process of firing and finishing off the ceramic sculpture.
During the first session, which will be held in Studio A at St James Cavalier, each adult-child team will be first introduced to the art of modelling clay, inspired from a theme based on a poem or literary work, and where the adults will motivate the children to create a sculpture or relief. These works will be then taken to ALKA Ceramics in Ta’ Qali to be biscuit-fired, that is, to undergo the first phase of firing
.
During the second part of the session, which will be held on another day at the kiln-equipped workshop at ALKA Ceramics in the Crafts Village in Ta’ Qali, the teams will collect their sculptures and proceed to glaze their work, and fired once again. Once cooled, the participants can observe the results produced after having gone through the entire process.
