International Ballet Gala
Description:
Malta is to welcome some of the world's most famous ballet stars representing the leading Russian theatres (The Bolshoi, Stanislavsky, Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky) as well as principal dancers of the Hungarian National ballet, not to mention countless admirers of this graceful art. As winter gives way to spring in 2015, the MCC will open its doors to everybody who wants to enjoy this wonderful cultural experience.
Although ballet did not originate in Russia, the country contributed much to its development and today Russian ballet is renowned the world over. Russian ballet for many decades has been regarded as the barometer of classical dance: where it leads, others follow. While young girls all over the world long to become ballerinas, their dreams have been influenced by great Russian ballet dancers and wonderful Russian ballets that have enchanted audiences all over the world.
The most famous classical pieces from the world of ballet as well as contemporary ballet will be performed for the Maltese public and guests visiting Malta at that time of the year. The programme will include:
- Pas d'esclave and pas de deux from ballet «Le Corsaire», choreography by M. Petipa, music by A. Adam
- Pas de deux from ballet «Sleeping beauty», music by P. Tchaikovsky, choreography by M. Petipa
- "Point", music by A. Gergely, choreography by L. Bajari and K.Pazar
- Fragment from ballet “Multiplicity. Forms of Silence and Emptiness”, music by I.S. Bach, choreography by Nacho Duato
- Pas de deux «Diane and Acteon» from ballet "Tsar Kardavl", music by C. Pugni, choreography by А. Vaganova
- Pas de deux «Romeo and Juliette» music by S. Prokofiev, choreography by L.Bajari and K.Pazar
- Adagio from ballet "Spartacus" music by A, Khachaturyan, choreography by G. Kovtun

In cooperation with Living Dance company we would like to present to the Maltese public Tarantella Dance (music by Leonid Levashkevich, choreography by Vera Arbuzova). This contemporary ballet piece has been rehearsed under the supervision of Vera Arbuzova and will be performed during the Gala by Maltese children – students from local ballet schools.
