Trust Law Course
Description:
This course offers an introductory overview of the Trust and Trustees Act in Malta, affording you a better understanding of the law and its implications, making your job more efficient and your organisation more knowledgeable. You will become more competent in advising on the implications of setting up a Trust under the Malta jurisdiction. This course will help you gain a clear understanding of what a Trust is and the various types of Trusts, Trustees, Commercial Benefits, Taxation, and Anti Money laundering considerations.
Who is it for?
This is an introductory course for all levels of professionals and their staff working in trust law advisory, specifically targeting those working in the corporate services, legal profession and financial management sector.
Why Should You Attend?
The Trusts and Trustees Act (Chapter 331 of the Laws of Malta), was first introduced in 2004. In December 2012, the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) issued a consultation document comprising proposed amendments to the Trusts and Trustees Act, which is the main body of law that regulates Trusts and Trustees under Maltese law, and other related legislation. There are no published statistics for the number of Trusts established. However, anecdotal evidence from practitioners in Malta indicates that it has been a success.
More and more Trusts are indeed being set up in Malta every year, a large part by non-Maltese, but more Maltese nationals and residents are also opting for a Trust. In addition, the number of people pursuing training and registration as trustees, and the number of Trust companies established, testify to the success and value of this legal framework.
