Ebullient Reverberations

Ebullient Reverberations in Malta, Malta, 2.12.2015 - 2.12.2015

Description:

The Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale presents a visual performance by by composer Jess Rymer and choreographer Naomi Hunter.

Over the past two years Jess and Naomi have created a diverse range of works including that of site specific pieces. Their collaboration creates equality between the two art forms in order to produce work that is neither sound nor movement driven but a confluence of ideas.

This work has been performed in the Open Space dance festival in Bath and many events throughout the south west of England. This performance piece by composer Jess Rymer and choreographer Naomi Hunter, will involve the projection of film, live dance and pre-recorded electronic music.

The concept of the piece originated from the Greeks Gate in Mdina where there is a marble tablet which accompanies the sculpture of St. Paul above the archway; this bears an inscription which states that Mons. Paolo de Bussan grants a forty-day indulgence to whoever recites a Salve Regina in front of the archways.

The piece will represent both the good and evil sides of indulgence and the concept will convey a message not only relevant to the history of Mdina but to the acute, world issues of modern society via questioning the falsifying and exploitation of religion for personal goal and pleading for the preservation of integrity in such matters.
