The Lampedusa Experience - a photo-journalistic exhibition
Description:
Opening on: Friday 12 February 2016
Closing on: Sunday 13 March 2016
Venue: Spot A (St James Cavalier)
The Lampedusa Experience is a collection of powerful, visual documents captured by three top photo journalists, Jason Florio, Darrin Zammit Lupi and Mark Zammit Cardona. The photos were mainly taken during rescues carried out by the Malta-based MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station).
The Lampedusa Experience, however, does not simply document rescue missions from the perspective of those carrying out the rescuing, or from those accompanying the rescuers. Perhaps somewhat unsettling, it also features items gathered from the rescue missions, such as boats and life jackets – tangible remnants which bring us closer to the experience and dangers migrants face just off our shores.
It will also feature video clips related to the different facets of migration.
The experience will culminate with a performance of Anders Lustgarten’s hard-hitting play LAMPEDUSA, performed on different nights in English or Maltese, at the theatre in St James Cavalier.
The Lampedusa Experience is part of an event organised by Unifaun Theatre Foundation and Spazju Kreattiv with the core aim to further increase awareness on immigration.
This exhibition is sponsored by InterVisions Ltd.
