Strange Days in the Cave - Aaron Dilloway & Nigel Baldacchino

Strange Days in the Cave - Aaron Dilloway & Nigel Baldacchino in Malta, Music Malta, 6.05.2016 - 6.05.2016

Description:

One of the legends found in Għargħur is that of St. Patrick's Cave (Għar San Brinkat). It was believed, in the old times, that demons had infested this cave. Thus, people were afraid to pass by it. Once, a painting on wood that featured a crucified Christ and St. Patrick came ashore in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq. Promptly, the people of Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq took the painting to this cave and the demons left. A spring found in this cave was said to be miraculous, however the faithful stopped drinking from it after lepers started bathing in it in order to heal. The painting can still be seen in the cave, a mass is said here once a year, when a small feast is held. Aaron Dilloway is a sound artist/noise musician from midwest America temporarily residing in Pieta, Malta. Dilloway works with the manipulation of crude tape loops in combination with voice, tape delays and various organic and electronic sound sources. A founding member of the industrial noise group Wolf Eyes (1998 - 2005), Dilloway now performs and records solo and in ongoing collaboration work with artists such as Genesis P-Orridge, Jason Lescalleet, Vicky Langan, Dylan Nyoukis, and more. Dilloway also runs the experimental music record label and record shop Hanson Records in Oberlin, Ohio. Even when his music sounds more like a broken circuit or a skipping record, it has the primacy of life's routines-- the way the world seems to loop around you in repetitive patterns as you navigate your way through it. That universality doesn't mean his music is for everyone. It takes some stamina to get lost in these lengthy sound essays. But then Dilloway has never done anything the easy way. If he tried to make his music more accessible, it would likely lose its core power. Instead, he's supremely patient, and he wants you to be, too. If you're up for it, Aaron Dilloway rewards that patience infinitely. Nigel Baldacchino studied architecture at the University of Malta and is currently working in a local office. During his free time, he mainly enjoys exploring the photographic medium, and experimenting with musical ideas. His output in photography led him to partake in a number of exhibitions locally and abroad while his musical output was channeled mainly into his ongoing project Fastidju which has released a self titled album in 2014 and gigged several times around the island. Apart from Fastidju, Baldacchino has been developing a number of musical ideas on his own over the years, which have sometimes been moulded into soundtracks. In other cases, these tracks sought (also) an independent release. Such is the case with the pieces to be played for the first time in this event. These tracks have been released by Hanson Records in a limited edition split release with founder Aaron Dilloway. Baldacchino is currently working on a photography book containing a selection from his two ongoing series, and soundtracks for a short film and a theatrical performance. Ambient set by Anti- (Pinkpube / Arsha Our)
