Theatre’s adaption of Ovid’s The Metamorphosis is performed in water, inside a swimming pool set up purposely at St Elmo Fortifications in Valletta. Adrian Buckle, who adapted the script together with Trevor Zahra, notes that the text holds unrequited love as its centre. These are all love stories, they portray love in all its different forms: there is the love of a lover, a parent and also the lust of a rapist. Driven by the god of love, Cupid, and the muses, this performance develops into various narrations where the characters search for their meaning of love. Sometimes they manage to achieve their aim, other times the story ends in tragedy. Among the stories we find those of Daphne and Apollo, Phaeton, Icarus, Tereus and Arachne. Much of the play is written in the form of Greek Theatre however, Unifaun, true to form, will not be keeping much of the action off-stage. The performance is directed by Stephen Oliver and Dominic Said and stars Magda van Kuilenburg, Jamie Cardona, Stephen Mintoff, Karl Schembri, Clayton Mallia, Sarah Amato, Lydia Portelli, Clint Chircop, Michela Farrugia and Julia Camilleri.
