Jeni Caruana at Villa Bologna

You are cordially invited to a reception on the 9th of April to mark the launch of Jeni Caruana's tenure at Villa Bologna this April. The reception will kick off at 5.30 pm, for those people wishing to drop by and see Jeni in action after work and will continue until 9pm.

Early birds also get to stroll in the Villa Bologna gardens free of charge. Jeni Caruana who will be painting and exhibiting on site throughout the month of April, is no stranger to VB, having organized regular Friday painting classes in the gardens.

She will be in the gift shop every Wednesday morning (10.00-13.00) and Saturday afternoon (14.00- 17.30), where you may peruse a selection of her paintings on exhibit.

Here at The Villa Bologna Gift Shop we have recently launched a monthly 'Visiting Artist Programme'. The aim of our project is to collaborate and share our space with other artists and also to inject life into our workshop and giftshop. Way back in the 1920's, Lady Strickland was co-responsible for setting up 'The Malta Industries Association,' with the objective of safeguarding local artisanship for posterity. We at Villa Bologna, are going back to our roots and extending a welcoming hand to promoting local endeavour and artistic potential and cultivating a certain pride in a 'Mahdum f'Malta' ethos.

Biography:

Born in England, Jeni studied at Uxbridge, Hull and Harrow Art Colleges before settling in Malta in 1977. She subsequently worked as a graphic designer and followed a post-Diploma course at Malta College of Art. Jeni has held regular solo exhibitions of her works and participated in numerous joint, group and collective exhibitions in Malta and abroad, representing Malta in UK, USA, Sardinia, Rome, Tunisia, Libya and Norway.

Paintings now hang in many public and private collections Works cover a wide variety of subjects and media, from landscapes to Prehistoric Temples, sand to ceramics, watercolour and acrylics to wooden sculptures. They are always based on good drawing and keen observation and always started on location or from live models. Intense study of the human figure has resulted in her ability to capture fleeting glimpses of people in motion. Visually expressing the emotional effects of music on the senses, her ‘musician’ paintings are a favourite subject.

Jeni has been teaching drawing and watercolour techniques to adults since 1995. She regularly runs six week courses in drawing and watercolour for beginners and improvers, specialised courses in life drawing, watercolour techniques, weekend workshops and painting outings and also art for self-expression, meditation and relaxation.
