Ms. Gabrielle Agius is a twenty-one year-old student at the University of Malta, currently in her final year studying History of Art. From a young age she has been fascinated with the idea of painting what is around her, and after abandoning painting for a number of years, she has continued from where she had left off with a newly-found energy.
Through her paintings, Gabrielle seeks to combine her diverse interests and passions. The vibrancy of her work reflects a sense of optimism, and a love for life and adventure. The main inspiration behind the majority of her work is an innate fascination with the human figure and colour, and these are merged with other motifs in a vibrant explosion of colourful paintings. The painter’s love for expressive faces can be seen in her numerous portraits of children which gaze directly into the viewer’s eyes.
Paint itself is in some instances the source of inspiration itself, as the colours blend and react to each other in a harmonious manner. The visible brushstrokes and thickly applied paint reflect her spontaneous working method. The process of painting itself is one which Gabrielle approaches aware of the element of chance. In a number of instances, the ideas for the work develop along with the painting itself, and thus the final result is not always a tangible reproduction of the initial idea. Gabrielle does not stick to one particular style or subject, but adapts her method according to her mood or the requirements of the work, thus she has painted numerous different subjects such as lively Maltese landscapes and scenes apart from her figurative work.
The collection of paintings display at Exclusive Interiors, Triq il- Masgar, Qormi consists mainly of vibrant, naturalistic portraits and lively abstracted works. This Exhibition is entitled Sentiment and will be held between the 24th of April till the 24th of June 2014.
All items are for sale. Viewing is free of charge. Monday to Friday 4.30pm till 7pm and Saturday 9am till 1pm for more details regarding the exhibition or to fix an appointment with the Artist herself kindly call on 21443313.
