Aire Flamenco

Alegria Academia de Baile Flamenco & Alegria Dance Company, Malta's only dance school specialising in Flamenco dance, song and music will be putting up 'Aire Flamenco'. Under the direction of Ingrid Sciberras, the Performance will consist of Flamenco Dance by members of the Academy and Alegria Dance Company and percussion by Jose Calderon from Seville, Spain. Walter Vella on Saxaphone will be our guest artist.

The event will also feature extracts from Bharat Natyam dance choreographed by Mavin Khoo for a few members of Alegria. The title of the show 'Aire Flamenco' has many significances. Aire meaning Air – an attitude and behaviour or Air that blows through various rythms of Flamenco music and song. Alegria thrives to give opportunities to its Company Members and students who wish to improve their knowledge of this art form by preparing and encouraging them to attend courses in Spain and by giving them opportunities within the school. Estelle Bonello Sant, Director of Choreography will be preparing most of the dances together with Ingrid Sciberras, Nicola Henson, Sara Bianchi, Ursula Farrugia, Ema Marie Attard and Claudia Karapanou.

The evening promises to be passionate, emotional, vibrant and colourful. The performance will give tribute to Sharon Sapienza and Paco de Lucia, who have both given their life to Flamenco and whose legend still lives amongst us.

'Aire Flamenco' will be held on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November 2014 at Salesian Theatre, Don Bosco Street, Sliema. On both evenings, the foyer of the theatre will include various activities with a display of flamenco dance drawing by students of Jeni Caruana and a display of wines, cheeses and hams by 'Made in Spain'. Various flamenco skirts and accessories by Claudia will be for sale as well as some copies of painting by Rosana Maya. 

Tickets will be out for sale from 27th October 2014.
