Malta EXPO - Scale Model Exhibition

The members of the Society for Scale Modellers will be holding their 37th Annual Scale Model Exhibition between Saturday 17th and Monday 19th March at the Malta Maritime Museum on the Vittoriosa Waterfront. The models on exhibit will consist of civil and military aircraft, cars, trucks and motorbikes, armoured vehicles and various classes of ships all from different eras and scenarios as well as a section dedicated to figurines. Many of these models have won awards and placed well in international events as recent as 2016. These models are veritable works of art and are obviously finished to the highest possible standards, testimony of the capability of Maltese modellers. As Malta’s representatives of the International Plastic Modellers Society, the Society has been promoting scale modelling in Malta these past thirty five years and has locally and internationally become synonymous with the high standards in model making of its members. In its continued effort to ensure that this expression of art remains popular, the Society strives to introduce youngsters to the hobby by means of its exhibitions, workshops and courses in scale modelling. Visitors to this year’s exhibition will be able to follow the process of model construction as members of the society will be working real-time on models at work-stations set up purposely for the spectator’s benefit. Visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite models taking part in the Visitors Choice Awards. IPMS Malta enjoys a very high ranking in international modelling quality and consequently, both finished and work in progress models are guaranteed to be of the highest levels. The Society, this year, has the honour of welcoming renowned Maltese artist Mr. Richard J Caruana, who will be delivering a talk entitled “Faith, Hope & Charity - The Legend Revisited”. The talk is scheduled to start at around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday 17th March and describes the story of three obsolete biplanes that faced vastly larger enemy planes during the first months of the Second World War in the skies over Malta and became legend in their own time. The Exhibition will be open between Saturday 17th to Monday 19th March from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Heritage Malta will be discounting the Entrance Fee to €2 per person and this entitles the visitors to tour the entire Maritime Museum and the MALTA EXPO.
