Malta Global Game Jam

Description:
Spend an afternoon exploring Maltese indie game development in the international context as internationally renowned game journalist Leigh Alexander and other special guests open this year's Malta Global Game Jam.
Leigh's keynote, 'Games: A Human Work', will examine the new cultural relevance of indie games and how new tools and new creators mean new opportunities for games to say new things to new people. She will suggest that game developers are not just making products, but also doing human works.
Leigh's writing on the art, business and culture of video games has appeared in Gamasutra, Edge, Kotaku and Polygon, as well as Time, The Atlantic, The Guardian, the Columbia Journalism Review and many others. She has written two books, 'Breathing Machine' and 'Clipping Through', on tech and identity, and is co-founder of Agency, a design consultancy that helps game developers gain perspective and achieve goals.
Also speaking will be game maker and critic Pippin Barr, who will give a workshop on minimal game design, and David Chircop and Yannick Massa, whose board game, '... and then we held hands ...', won last year's popular vote.
The opening event (2:30pm - 8pm) is free and open to the public, even if you have not registered to participate in the full 48 hour Game Jam.
Registration to participate in the full Game Jam is now open. Visit maltagamejam.com for information and to register. Registration costs €30 and places are strictly limited.
