Sunset Shearwater Boat Trip

Come along to an annual BirdLife boat trip to marvel at one of Malta’s most enigmatic birds: the Scopoli’s Shearwater.

We will set off to the Ta’ Cenc cliffs which are home to over 2,000 breeding Scopoli’s Shearwaters and 6,000 non-breeding visitors. The birds are very social and can be seen gathering at sea in groups of hundreds, behaviour known as “rafting”. They do this as they wait for darkness to fall so they can fly back to their burrows in the cliffs and tend to their young. Rafting is quite a spectacle and what we hope to witness on the trip!

We have 4 boat trips you can attend (non-members should attend the public boat trip):

Adult Members Boat Trip: Saturday 4th June

Family Members Boat Trip: Friday 10th June

Public Boat Trip: Friday 7th August

Public Boat Trip: Saturday 8th August

Member prices: €7 adults, €5 children (under 14s)

Non-member prices: €10 adults, €6 children (under 14s)

Meeting: Marfa jetty, opposite Riveria Hotel. Meeting time is at 18:45, the boat leaves at 19.15.

When booking please provide which boat trip you would like to attend, names for all adults and children in your group, age of children in your group and a contact number for the group organiser. Under 5s are not allowed due to boat restrictions.

In the unlikely event the trip cannot run due to inclement weather we will try and arrange a trip at an alternative date.
