Moving Mountains

FOPSIM presents Moving Mountains, a new play by Vincent Vella. Every year, even in countries with laws stating the contrary, parents of seriously ill children refuse medical intervention because of their religious beliefs. Moving Mountains, inspired by true events, tells of one such conflict. Emma is a gifted and attractive sixteen-year-old who develops an aggressive, malignant type of cancer. The family, under the influence of Reverend Whitmore, refuses treatment. On the other side we have Dr. Paula Boldini, the hospital administrator, and Dr. Nicolas Mertens, pediatrician and principal force behind the reformed laws. A series of highly charged scenes, going right up to the strong, startling denouement, take us through the face-off between the two sides as, first the parents and later Emma herself, seek to foil the doctors’ plans.
