La Semana Santa de Espana fl-Imqabba

A unique exhibition by the youth section within the Saint Mary Society and Band King George V Band Club Mqabba which is totally different from other exhibitions that we traditionally visit during these days in various towns and villages around Malta and Gozo, but focusing on the Holy Week in Spain. The exhibition consists of over 160 miniature statues replicas of those of the Spanish cities. The statues which are build by local artists consists of various episodes from the passion of Christ. The main feature that makes this exhibition different is the statues are decorated in fine velvet clothes with elaborated gold and silver embroildery, all handmade to the last detail. Teh exhibition is not only about statues but it also features hundreds of photos of the processions in Seville and Malaga, paintings, original costumes, medals and badges from the different Confrateros. To help the vistors understand better the Spanish Holyweek traditions, various features and documentary are shown on big screan throughout the opening hours. Another attraction are two lifesize statues rapresenting La Esperanza Macarena de Sevilla and El Cautivo de Malaga, made by young artist Michael Cutajar Zahra from Gozo. La Semana Santa de Espana in Mqabba is held in 3 halls within the Santa Marija & King George V Band Club, which is situated in Mqabba Parish Church square. The exhibition is held between the 18th March and 1st April. Entrance is free.
