CoinciDance Ballet Theatre: Midsummer Night's Dream in Aid of Puttinu Cares

CoinciDance Ballet Theatre: Midsummer Night's Dream in Aid of Puttinu Cares in Malta, Arts/Culture Malta, 28.04.2018 - 29.04.2018

Description:

Show time: 2 x 45 min plus 20 min intermission Coincidance Ballet Theatre created a makeover of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream in 2012. This unique adaptation of the drama was a milestone in the life of the troupe being the first performance the young dancers staged fully by themselves. The two storylines were easily fitting the two styles of dancing. The more abstract, enchanted world of the fairies is performed by contemporary dancers while the characteristic world of the Athens workers is a perfect fit with the stubborn knocking of the step shoes. The performance acquired its final choreography by 2016 for the Karmiel Festival in Israel. Honouring the invitation, the creators put all effort, energy and time into the reinterpretation of the show, correcting all previous imperfections. The show retained its original charm and beauty but got completely revamped. It is still a smash hit performance that is part of the troupe's repertoire. The troupe was founded in 2008. The name Coincidance derives from the English word 'coincidence' which means an incidential concurrance. The name refers to the organic combination of the two dancing styles and their harmonic fusion. The style of the troupe was born from unique merging of the European contemporary dance and authentic Irish step dancing. In her creations Julia Gyulai choreographer uses the suitability of the dance for storytelling and the abstracted dramaturgy as organising principles. The hallmark of the reputation of the troupe is the three European Irish step dance champions: founding members Dániel Farkas, Júlia Gyulai and Norbert Potornai. The motto for the early years of Coincidance became 'the champions of Irish dancing' while the 'Coincidance Ballet Theatre' signals the level of work they do today more precisely. The dancers in Coincidance Ballet Theatre have to be specially skilled as the productions require the highest level of knowledge in two technically very different dancing styles. Apart from dancing skills members are also required to have an outstanding stage presence, great theatrical attitude and dramatic capabilities.
