My family and other animals: A naturalist perspective of Malta

Throughout this walk, our focus will be directed towards the anthropological perspectives offered by the naturalist's experiences of the cultural 'tradition' of hunting, the political realities these enthusiasts face and the challenges that affect intervention efforts. Lastly, we will also look into the importance of the formation of a naturalist conscience.

Our main speaker for this event will be Professor Mark Anthony Falzon, who is an avid naturalist and who is also (by profession) an anthropologist turned sociologist. The talk will be moderated and guided by Caldon Mercieca, an active Birdlife member with years of experience in Birdwatching. Amongst other things, he has contributed in efforts to compile systematic lists of birds observed in Malta on an annual basis.

MAS would also like to highlight that this event is in honour of the renowned naturalist Gerald Durrell, whose writings have been formative to the works, values and ideas of many naturalists. The title of the event is therefore drawn from one of his main works "My family and other animals".
