Experience the joy of five days of intense musical theatre training at the Teatru Manoel by leading director Caroline Clegg and vocal coach Kate Fenech Field.

Learn repertoire by some of the greatest musical masters of our age Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Kander and Ebb, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and shows such as Cabaret, West Side Story, Anything Goes, Singing in the Rain, Rocky Horror and many more. The repertoire is endless but it will be tailor made to the participant’s voices and abilities.

You will learn how to prepare and perform solo and ensemble songs and dances, develop creativity and discover your vocal potential. Whether you are a singer who dances or a dancer who sings or an actor who sings and dances, this is for you!

Caroline Clegg is a stage director and choreographer. She trained at the Italia Conti School in London and began her career as a dancer in West End musicals such as Singing in the Rain and 42nd Street alongside a successful acting career in repertory theatre and TV. Caroline is an international stage director and founder and artistic director of Feelgood Theatre Productions, but, she is also passionate about teaching and working with young people.

She taught and directed at the Royal Northern College of Music for 18 years and was the inaugural director of Youth Perform (now Young Company) the Musical Theatre group for young people, creating award winning musicals for over ten years most recently winning the Manchester Theatre Award for Singing in the Rain.

Caroline also teaches at the Manchester School of Theatre (MMU) and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), were recent work includes The Threepenny Opera, the UK premiere of Dead Man Walking (Heggie) and Orfeo and Euridice for Scottish Opera Young Company.

Other recent work includes: Teatru Manoel Opera Festival 2022, the film of the new opera Song of our Heartland (Todd) for Opera North, Rhondda Rips it Up for Welsh National Opera (International Opera Award, and Sky Arts Award nominee), selected other work includes: Rigoletto, Longborough Festival; world premiere Tokaido Road, (Lefanu) Cheltenham Festival, Seven Deadly Sins (Weill) Halle Orchestra, (Sir Mark Elder), From the House of the Dead (revival) for WNO at Janáček Festival in Brno, and Teatro Massimo, Sicily. Movement director/assoc dir, Lulu, (Berg) WNO and Teatro Communale, Bolzano; Paradise Moscow (Shostakovich), Opera North and Bregenz Festival; arena director for productions of Aida and Carmen for Companions Opera, Hamburg, , Donizetti’s Il Campenello for the Buxton Festival, UK premiere, The Silly Little Mouse (Shostakovich) and Brundibar (Hans Krása) for the Halle, Singing in the Rain, Threepenny Opera, Guys and Dolls and Birtwistle’s Down by the Greenwood Side at Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and the UK/LA Festival. This year Caroline’s company, Feelgood Theatre Productions celebrates 27 years of national and international touring. Awards include: The John Thaw Fellowship, Pete Postlethwaite Award, the Horniman Award for Outstanding Service to Theatre, MEN Awards for Best Theatre; Director and Opera. She is also one of the artistic directors of the new opera company (2021) Creative Juices.

Kate Fenech Field (PPRNCM, BMus RNCM) vocal coach, choral director and arranger. She was introduced to teaching by running an education project for Clonter Opera in Cheshire, introducing opera to hundreds of primary school children through county-wide music workshops.

Having a career singing opera, classical and musical theatre repertoire, Kate was approached to present a singing workshop for one of the UK's most successful part-time performing arts schools, the Jayne A Coleman Academy of Dance in Crowthorne. This grew into a successful fourteen-year partnership, with Jayne and Kate producing shows and award-winning competitive Song & Dance numbers together. Kate's pupils from JACAD include West End cast members of Top Hat, Wicked, Les Miserables, Dirty Dancing, Elf!, An American in Paris, Anything Goes and Mamma Mia!

Kate was a visiting singing teacher, choir director and choral arranger at St Swithun's School, The Piggott School, Claires Court School and JACAD. Her pupils prepared for either ABRSM or Trinity College London solo singing examinations and achieved an average grade of Distinction.

Kate currently spearheads theatre for young audiences, youth training, community singing and audience development projects at Teatru Manoel, running the Learning & Participation programme, TOI TOI. In 2021, Kate rebooted Teatru Manoel Youth Opera, taking the weekly training sessions focusing on acting for young singers, opera scenes and the creative writing process of narrative and melodic composition, aided by composers, choreographers and other musicians to co-create inspiring new work. Most recently, Kate lead an intensive training course, in collaboration with the Foundation for Education Services, for Performing Arts Playworkers.
