No Longer “Out of Sight”: Enabling Access to Deepwater Cultural Heritage

No Longer “Out of Sight”: Enabling Access to Deepwater Cultural Heritage in Malta, Learning Malta, 13.06.2025 - 13.06.2025

Description:

This event is being co-organised by the Malta Classics Association and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage for European Archaeology Days 2025.
This lecture will detail the speaker's ongoing doctoral research in deepwater cultural heritage at the University of Malta. The concept of access to underwater archaeological sites that were previously 'out of sight, out of mind' will be discussed in light of the speaker's research goal - that of establishing a framework of the creation, management and communication of deepwater cultural heritage. This study focuses specifically on deepwater archaeological parks, as opposed to sites or preserves. Thus, the case study of the recently inaugurated Xlendi Underwater Archaeological Park will feature.
Our speaker for this evening is Rebecca Xerri, PhD candidate at the University of Malta's Department of Classics and Archaeology.
The event is free and open to the general public, and is being hosted at the Department of Classics and Archaeolgy (ie. Archaeology Farmhouse) in Carpark 6 of the University of Malta. We hope to see you all there!
