Manon Live from the Royal Opera House

Showing exclusively at the Eden Cinemas on the 16th October at 20:15 is the breathtaking ballet, Manon. Performed in its 40th anniversary year by the Royal Ballet, the production will be broadcast live from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan, the ballet tells the story of Manon Lescaut, a beautiful young woman who falls prey to the moral corruption of 18th Century Paris.

With designs by Nicholas Georgiadis and music by conductor Barry Wordsworth, together with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Manon’s tragic love story is vividly brought to life in the most stunning of ways. Evoking the brutality and decadence described in Abbé Prévost’s infamous novel, the feckless character of Manon is put into focus as she is torn between love for the poet Des Grieux and her desire for money and attention.

Manon features many complex characters that add to the dynamics of the production, but at the very heart of this ballet are the duets MacMillan created for Manon and Des Grieux, which are among the most emotionally intense and erotically charged choreography.

Eden Cinemas continues to enhance the experience of the dramatic ballet through dimmed theatre lighting and amplified sound, as though watching the performance at the Royal Opera House in London. Manon will be shown on a large screen, guarantying a most magnificent performance, with each movement beautifully captured.
