Comedy Knights Dozen Get Funnier Than This: Still the Funniest Christmas Show in Malta!
The team at Whatson.com.mt has been fans of The Comedy Knights since their daring debut over a decade ago. Winning our "Annual Christmas Show of the Season" award for 11 years running, this troupe has grown from a fresh, audacious act into a beloved staple of Maltese society. With over 800 attendees per night, it’s no surprise they’ve become the Christmas show everyone’s talking about.
Another Award-Winning Year
This year is no different. After seeing every Christmas show happening in Malta so far, The Comedy Knights once again claim the prize for "Top Christmas Show." While other productions are fun and family-focused, like the Manoel Theatre with it's impressive production values, or Teatru Salesians with its funny family friendly panto on it's tiny stage, The Comedy Knights stand out with their unparalleled creativity and relentless entertainment and sheer talent performing on stage. For 2.5 hours (including a 20-minute interval), they deliver non-stop laughs that transcend cultures and languages.
The audience is a delightful mix of locals and expats, proving its universal appeal. With a language blend of 85% English and 15% Maltese, the humor is accessible to everyone, even those new to Maltese culture. On the night we attended, the theater was packed with people of all ages, including families with kids as young as 12, all laughing their heads off.
A Show-Stopping Opening
The opening number is simply outstanding, setting the scene for the incredible show that follows. Everyone we spoke to agrees: if you only saw the opening act and left, your ticket would still feel worth every cent. But trust us, you’ll want to stay for the full ride.
The Cast Shines Bright
This year’s cast features a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars, all delivering standout performances:
- Chris Dingli: A Comedy Knights OG, Dingli’s opening monologue showcases his command of the stage, and his range of characters—from a Sliema nanna to a sleazy salesman—is breathtaking.
- Pia Zammit: The ultimate team player, often the perfect foil for outlandish characters. Her roles as a ministerial matchmaker and a cheeky nanna are scene-stealers.
- Steve Hili: A pure ball of energy! His acting, singing, and dancing are top-notch, and his stand-up leaves the audience in stitches.
- John Montanaro: A 30-year stage veteran, Montanaro’s impeccable timing shines through in roles like the bumbling police commissioner and an aloof Balluta boy.
- Naomi Said: A revelation in the ministerial matchmaker sketch, she also led the delivery room scene to a hilarious and unexpected climax.
- Francesca Scerri: Her musical prowess is on full display in the Act 1 and Act 2 closers. Her sketch energy and audience interaction were equally impressive.
- Colin Fitz: From a clueless dad to a Bormla babe, Fitz steals the show with sharp comedic timing and unforgettable moments.
- James Ryder: While he couldn’t help breaking character in one sketch, Ryder excelled in video pieces and his desperate passenger rant—a true highlight.
